Many of us tend to associate food and diet with how we look. Perhaps you’re often worried you’re over or under weight and pondering whether you’ll ever be able to wear that size six dress ever again! But did you know the food you eat has a direct effect on your mood, mental abilities and emotional state of mind too?
FOOD FOR THE BRAIN is a non-profit educational charity which works to promote awareness of the links between learning behaviour, mental health and nutrition. Their vision is to create an approach to mental health where nutritional imbalances are corrected as a first line procedure and where the importance of nutrition for mental health is recognised and implemented by all. In order to realise this vision, Food for the Brain actively work to provide educational material for children, parents, teachers, schools & universities, health professionals and the Government to name but a few.
Food for the Brain actively work to further the research into mental health and nutrition in a number of ways, their ‘Food for the Brain Child Survey’, which compared food intake with academic performance, behaviour and health in over 10,000 children has recently received mass media coverage and they have managed to raise awareness of highly successful nutrition-based treatments for a number of mental health issues such as Bipolar Disorder, ADHD/Hyperactivity, Autism, Depression, Dyslexia, Dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and Schizophrenia.
